FAQ

What do volunteers at Modern Art Oxford do?

Volunteers are involved throughout the organisation, from story telling and invigilation to giving tours, research, administration, social media and creative activities!

Can I choose how often and when I volunteer?

Absolutely. We hope you can help us for 4 hours a month. Volunteering with us is flexible and supportive. You can sign up to sessions that work around your commitments.

Are there age requirements?

Volunteers must be over the age of 16.

I don't have any experience of volunteering at an art gallery. Can I still apply?

Absolutely!

Will I be paid?

Volunteer roles are unpaid. However, if you use public transport to get here, you may claim travel expenses up to £5 per day.

Will there be an interview?

We don't hold formal interviews but we like to have an informal chat to see what you're interested in and to see if we think you're a good fit.

Will I get training?

Everyone receives an induction and training specific to the role.

Can I leave if I don't like it?

Of course you can. We would ask that you let us know the reason why.

Can I claim benefits while volunteering?

Yes. Volunteering does not affect your benefits‚ although you may have to let the Job Centre staff know.

Can I do work experience at the gallery?

We currently do not offer work experience placements. However, volunteering may provide the experience you’re looking for!

Can I volunteer with a friend?

Of course!

Will I receive a reference for my volunteering?

Once you have completed three months of regular volunteering then we are happy to provide a reference for you.

I'd like to volunteer with you, what happens next?

Sign up to Volunteer Makers and we'll be in touch about arranging an informal chat in the next few weeks.
